When young people interview here at GolinHarris, I encourage them to be thinking of it as a “career interview” versus a “job interview.” I want people that are curious, aggressive, creative, committed and opinionated – as those are attributes you find in people that are seeking to build a career, not fill a job.
I was hired 13 years ago from another PR agency, as an account supervisor to manage the Gerber baby food business. Why would a single, 26-year-old male take a “job” on a baby food account? Because of the career opportunities it provided. I was lucky enough to be hired, and to work with smart, dedicated, strategic, compassionate people — on both the agency and client sides. They taught me about client service, strategy, financial management, media relations and consumer marketing. Since that time, I have worked with dozens of great clients and hundreds of amazing colleagues that have continued to teach me new things. I couldn’t ask for a better career, and I’ve never regretted being an “agency guy” for even one minute.
In my time with GH, I have led accounts, groups, offices and regions — and still, there is so much more to do. That’s what’s so great about the PR agency business. We get to learn from and influence many clients and industries — from diesel engines, to beer, to children’s charities.
In addition to our client work, we have a unique culture that so many of us hold near-and-dear. It may sound like a cliché, but trust me, it’s really like a family here. Like any family, we argue, debate, work together, support each other and learn from one another. It’s a big part of why I built my career here, and why I can’t imagine working anywhere else.

What’s on my iPod, Kindle and TiVo
Music, books and television shows. Seriously, I love Ray LaMontagne; 70’s music and Howard Stern on Sirius/XM; NPR; any HBO series — especially Entourage, Curb Your Enthusiasm, In Treatment and Flight of the Concordes; and every Boston Red Sox or New England Patriots game.
My Favorite Pastimes
Trying to convince my wife and our three young daughters to care about sports even a little; laughing;
breakfast with my girls on weekends; long car trips where I can really think; reading the newspaper; and spending time with my close friends.
My Favorite Quote
“Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan
"press on" has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.” – Calvin Coolidge.
