Jonathan Hughes
Joint Managing Director
jhughes@golinharris.com

I joined GH in September 2005 after five years with our sister IPG company, Weber Shandwick. In those days the London office was not as strong as it is now and Matt Neale, my co-managing director, and I were given the opportunity to stamp our mark on the UK business. Opportunities like that don’t come up that often so we jumped at the chance, and being named 2008 International Agency of The Year by the UK’s PR Consultants Association (PRCA) was a career high.

What makes us different from a lot of other agencies is that although I am now jointly responsible for our offices in Europe, I am still very hands-on with clients and staff. This is what gets me out of bed in the morning. I’ve been in communications for over ten years and I work primarily with senior executives to help them clearly articulate their business strategy and vision and to help them better tell their company
story to the audiences that matter most. Although I have a heritage in technology PR, I have worked across a range of business-to-business and business-to-consumer brands including Nokia, Orange, British Airways, Tetra Pak, Unilever and Oracle. I love developing creative communication strategies and seeing them come to life. When the unexpected happens, I’m also used to handling crises and more importantly
preparing clients ahead of time on the key issues and how to deal with them.

The other thing I love about my profession is that it never stands still. Sure traditional media is still extremely influential but new digital channels are opening up more and more ways for brands to engage with new and different audiences. Helping companies get to grips with this rapidly changing landscape keeps you on your toes. The other things that keep me on my toes are my amazing wife and family.
