I can still remember the day more than 10 years ago when I made the decision to join the agency. I had met with the senior leaders and completed all the steps required to come on board, but one very important meeting remained — with Al Golin. We met for lunch at the old 410 Club in The Wrigley Building in Chicago, and I was immediately put at ease and charmed by the man who had built this great agency— and who is recognized as one of the true pioneers in our profession. We connected, we laughed together and Al, as only he can do, regaled me for the next hour with wonderful stories and vignettes of people and places that have been a part of his incredible life and career. After that lunch, my decision was easy. How could I work anywhere else?
Authentic. Real. True. These are the qualities of GolinHarris that separate it from others. As I’ve traveled throughout the world over the past decade, working with GH offices everywhere, I’ve found there’s a common thread that ties the agency and its culture together — its people. Regardless of where you are, when you interact with the men and women of the agency, you know they’re “GH.”
Al himself once told me that he was proudest when a former employee approached him and said he couldn’t remember anyone who had worked for GH saying anything negative about their time or experiences as an employee. “It says a lot about our values and our principles— how they have endured through the years,” Al said. He’s right.
I’ll never forget that lunch and my time that day with the man who has made Real People, Real Stories possible for me.
